What is the purpose of an equality policy?
* To ensure equality of opportunity is afforded to all staff and service users of your project.
* To avoid unlawful discrimination either directly or indirectly.
Who is covered by the equality policy?
* All employees or prospective employees, and users of your services if you employ more than 16 people.
* All committee member, volunteers and clients dependent on your provision.
Who will draft the policy?
* Employer and employees should draft the policy and include committee members, volunteers and clients where appropriate.
Who is responsible for complying with the law?
* The employer, by taking corrective action.
* The employee by acting in line with the policy
* Incorporating equal opportunities into all strategies and future plans so that it becomes part of everyday working life.
What activities and/or procedures are covered?
* Recruitment, promotion, dismissal, discipline, grievance, training and pay, as applicable to staff, committee members and volunteers.
* Service delivery to clients.
How will you deal with appeals and complaints?
* Follow organisational procedures.
* Investigate and take appropriate action.
How do you know if your equality policy is working?
* By monitoring events and action taken.
