Equality Act checks ''waste millions''
Equality assessments that the government is imposing on companies are said to be "ludicrous and pointless" and will waste around £100m in the next year.
The government is implementing the former deputy Labour leader Harriet Harman's Equality Act which requires businesses and other bodies to demonstrate that they don't discriminate against minority groups. However, right-wing critics have said that spending millions asking staff about their religion and sexuality was something they might have expected from the previous Labour administration, not the coalition government promising 'new politics'.
One Tory MP said: "I hope this government will show some common sense and scrap much of this legislation. In many respects, [Home Secretary] Theresa May is as bad as Harriet Harman."
