Ban on gagging clauses in Equality Act 'may have no effect'

Questions have been raised over a key part of the Government's new equality law which was designed to eradicate the gender pay gap in the City.

The Equality Act, which comes into force in October, is expected to outlaw gagging clauses written into employee contracts which stop workers from talking about their pay.

The previous Labour government, which introduced the law, claimed that thousands of women in the City would benefit from the changes because it would bring out into the open the difference in pay and bonuses between men and women doing the same jobs.
