Will Brexit have an impact on UK women's employment rights?

As Britain prepares its departure from the EU, one political commitment has been accused of being overlooked – women’s rights.

According to the Equality and Human Rights Commision (EHRC), women in the UK risk losing equality protections, including employment rights, as a result of Brexit. In its review, the body warns that the Equality Act, is not included in the withdrawal bill, despite the Government promising its protections once the UK leaves.

The EHRC report states: “Employment rights and funding for women’s services are areas of particular concern,” pointing to research finding 11% of mothers felt forced to leave their job due to pregnancy, equating to 54,000 women each year.
