Flexibility bias affects all workers – not just parents

A large amount of 'work-life spillover' contributes to dissatisfaction across organisations

The benefits of introducing flexible working practices are well understood – but a perception that flexible workers are less productive or committed still persists in too many places. And it’s having a negative effect on careers, a study from the University of Michigan and California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) has found.

Most notably, the research revealed that a negative workplace culture and a high degree of ‘work-life spillover’ not only affects those working flexibly – who are more likely to be parents – but also contributes to dissatisfaction right across the employee base.
