House of Lords report on Equality Act and Disability Government and EHRC responses

On 7 July 2016, the Government published its Response to the House of Lords Select Committee Report on the Equality Act 2010s impact on disabled people.

On 20 July, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) published its response to the Select Committee Report with EHRC Chair, David Isaac, calling for a new national focus on disability rights, so that disabled people are no longer treated as second class citizens.

Disability Rights UK responded: We are disappointed that on many of the Lords sensible recommendations, the Governments response is either non-committal or negative.

Background information:
Published in March 2016, the House of Lords Select Committee on the Equality Act 2010 and Disability investigating the Acts impact on disabled people concluded that the Government is failing in its duty of care to disabled people.

The report, The Equality Act 2010: the impact on disabled people, says practice in all areas must be improved.
