What's your gender pay gap?

A new method to enable businesses to work out pay gaps existing between male and female workers has been published by the Government Equalities Office (GEO).

According to the GEO, a single ‘snapshot’ figure can easily be reached by employers who wish to gain an indication of the overall levels of pay for employees of both genders.

From applying the methodology to a range of Government departments, the GEO has also uncovered significant pay gaps between male and female employees within these areas.

The experiment, which calculated the annual mean salaries of full- and part-time workers, uncovered a range of differing amounts of pay within individual departments, including an 18.8% gender pay gap within the Ministry of Defence, a difference of 15.4% within HM Revenue and Customs, and a difference of 8.2% in the Border and Immigration Agency.
