Race and faith to be explored in Police Service inquiry

A focused inquiry is to be launched to explore race and faith issues within the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), it has been announced.

London Mayor Boris Johnson will commission the inquiry as the current Chairman of the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA). It comes in the aftermath of an amount of media interest in how the MPS deals with issues regarding race and faith.

The inquiry will focus on several “key” issues, including the progression of black, minority and ethnic (BME) candidates through the ranks of the service, and the extent to which there is visible leadership around race issues.
