VAWG Managers & Practitioner’s Focus Group Event: BME women DV & Honour Based Violence
11 am to 2 pm Location: Angelou Centre, 17 Brighton Grove, NE4 5NS Host: Angelou Centre NEWomen’s Network are working in partnership with the three Police and Crime Commissioners in Northumbria, Durham and Cleveland to shape the development and implementation a regional strategy to tackle violence against women and girls (VAWG) in the North East. This work is supported by Northern Rock Foundation. The first stage of this process is a series of visioning workshops for managers and practitioners from women’s voluntary and community organisations across the North East and other specialist VAWG service providers.

Kanda Bongo Man at Waka Waka launch
Kanda Bongo Man is one of the stars of world music, and a pioneer of African Soukous music. His exhilarating performances are fast moving and exciting combinations of music and dance moves rooted deep in the Congolese tradition. His form of soukous gave birth to the kwassa kwassa dance rhythm. He’s performed all over the world and in 2005 he featured at the LIVE 8: Africa Calling concert.

Student Health and Well-being: Transforming Sexual Health Services in Universities and Colleges
Time: 10.15am – 4:30pm Venue: Central London With the changes to the way sexual health services are delivered taking effect from April 2013, this timely symposium offers a valuable opportunity for universities, FE colleges, sixth form colleges, local authorities and sexual health providers to consider how services and interventions can better meet the sexual health needs of young people within their student community. Delegates will: •Examine the next steps to improve the sexual health of young people within the context of the new public health and sexual health frameworks •Consider how universities, FE colleges and local authorities can work in partnership to better meet the sexual health needs of their student population, including access to contraception, information and advice services •Assess how to tackle risky behaviour amongst students, addressing the impact of alcohol and drugs •Explore how to reduce STI rates and unwanted pregnancies through better access to, and use of, contraception and treatment services

Supporting people with learning disabilities into sustainable employment
Venue: Birmingham NIACE continues to work with staff from The Realistic Opportunities for Supported Employment (ROSE) Programme to offer a further date for this popular one-day training designed to provide the essential skills needed for anyone becoming a Job Coach. The training is relevant to job coaches, managers, organisers, tutors, coaches, personal assistants, and supported employment professionals who are interested in supported employment for people with learning disabilities.
