What does the New Equality Act mean to the women’s sector?

What does the New Equality Act mean to the women’s sector? The Equality Act received Royal Assent on 8 April 2010 and is due to come into force starting October 2010. Over the last four decades we have used a combination of laws on issues of equality and discrimination.

The new Act is intended to streamline all of this into a single act; to provide a new cross-cutting legislative framework to protect the rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity for all. The intention is to deliver a simple and more accessible framework of equality law by updating and simplifying previous legislations which in eff ect protects individuals from unfair treatment and help organisations to comply with the law, thus promoting a fair and more equal society.
